Space is limited and offers of participation will be on a first come first served basis. These events are subject to a successful grant submission and no guarantee can be made that they will be provided if the grant is not awarded.

New Area Forums

Area Forums are a new kind of meeting allowing residents to get involved in local decision making and speak out about issues which are important to them.
The Area Forum for Bradgate, Rothley, Mountsorrel and Birstall met for the first time on February 27 The meetings are attended by County, Borough and Parish Councillors as well as the Police and other community representatives including the NHS. There are 27 new forums across Leicestershire.
They have no formal decision making powers, but there is a 'duty to respond' to actions recommended.

Cllr Richard Shepherd, Leader of Charnwood Borough Council, said: "Area Forums are designed to provide a 'one-stop-shop' for people to talk to representatives of local services. All of us involved in organising them really hope that local residents will come along to tell us their views and concerns. If we can't provide answers immediately, we'll report back."

Youth Group

A Youth Group has started in the village. Deacon Jan Sutton and Youth Worker Ben Webb have set up the project in the Methodist Church which is open to all young people in the village. Membership is for young people aged 13 to 17 and offers a range of facilties for play, music and a range of other activities. Help is still needed. The Parish Council have provided some funding but more money is needed to fund the full range of activities. Volunteers are urgently needed as one adult is required for each six young people. Other activities
The Mountsorrel detached youth project became street based in the spring of 1998. Headed by Joanna Clarke, it serves the youth of the village. It meets from time to time in the Working Men's club, at other times outside on the Memorial Hall car park or one of the playing fields. Some time ago, young people produced a magazine, entitled "Seen and not heard" which was distributed around the village. In it, a plea was made for a youth centre in which to meet. Plans have been drawn up to construct an appropriate building near to the Memorial Hall.
