Working together on walks
Local residents from Mountsorrel and Syston have taken part in two Ward Walks with representatives from the County Council, the Borough Council, the Parish Council and the Police and other local organisations.
The Ward Walks allow local residents to discuss their ideas and concerns for the area with senior representatives from various agencies, who follow up on the issues identified.
Cllr Richard Shepherd, Leader of Charnwood Borough Council, said: "We are very keen to involve local communities and listen to their needs.
By listening to people's needs and, where possible, acting upon them, we can really make a difference.
We are planning a regular pattern of ward walks in neighbourhoods across the Borough. The ones held in Mountsorrel and Syston were extremely successful and all the partners are currently working together to address the issues raised.
Inspector Cathy Yallop, Commander of Charnwood local policing unit said: "Ward Walks are a really useful way of finding out what issues are affecting communities and being able to immediately identify the correct agency to tackle those issues whether they are related to crime, litter, graffiti, vandalism, abandoned cars, nuisance neighbours or anything else that affects the quality of people's lives.
By working with other agencies, and looking at the issues together, we can ensure action is taken to try and find a solution".
The next Ward Walks will take place on the 24 November in the Warwick Way area of Loughborough.

Amended plans for new hall approved
Plans for Mountsorrel's new Memorial Hall have been approved by Charnwood Borough Council.
After taking advice from Charnwood's Planning Department the original plans have been amended: the hall will now be a single building and has been moved slightly to the north within the site.
The original plans were for two separate buildings, a youth centre and the Memorial Rooms. The new building will offer the same facilities within a single structure. The building has been moved north by a few metres as planners felt the original plans were too close to the apartments in the south eastern corner of the site. More »
The new building will be erected by the Mountsorrel War Memorials Trust Ltd on the site of the existing Memorial Hall, which will be demolished.
Details of the planning application P/08/0983/2 can be viewed on Charnwood's website, www.charnwood.gov.uk.

- Following the Government’s shortlisting of ‘Pennbury’ as a potential Eco-town, the ‘Have your Say’ meetings in Kibworth and Tugby were the first opportunity for residents in the surrounding area to find out how the District and County Council were planning to respond to this challenge.
- At the Blaby South Community Forum residents and Parish Councillors from Sapcote, Sharnford, Stoney Stanton and surrounding villages expressed their concerns about the volume and speed of Heavy Goods Vehicles travelling through their villages. New Memorial Hall and Young People's Centre

Preliminary drawings for a new Memorial Hall and Young People's Centre were on display in Mountsorrel library in December.
The old Memorial Hall, next to the Soar Valley Leisure Centre, was built in the 1960's and is in a poor state of repair.
The owners, the Mountsorrel War Memorials Trust Ltd, want to demolish it and replace it with two buildings: a new village hall and a centre for young people. The Trust, a charitable company, also owns the Leisure Centre and the car parking areas. The Leisure Centre is leased to Charnwood Borough Council.
Mountsorrel Parish Council is working with the War Memorials Trust to prepare plans for the replacement facility. The next steps will involve:
1. exhibition, consultation and survey to assess the level of support for the submission of a planning application to Charnwood Borough Council to establish that the project can be implemented.
2. detailed costing discussions on funding alternatives, the preparation of a business plan and management solutions to bring it about.
